The Avalon Hotel on Catalina Island named one of US's Best Hidden Gems

   Catalina Island has been receiving national attention, thanks to an award received by one of its hotels.

   The Avalon Hotel was named one of the Best Hidden Gems in the United States in TripAdvisor's 2006 Travelers Choice Awards.

   "We're proud of this award," said Kathleen Gosselin, one of The Avalon Hotel's owners. "But what we're really proud of is the fact that we're giving our guests experiences that are worth raving about."

   Unlike other hotel awards programs that survey perhaps thousands of people, the TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice winners are selected by millions of travelers from around the world who provide their real and unbiased reviews or opinions about hotels on TripAdvisor.com and across the Web.

   "The 2006 Travelers' Choice winners are once again singled out for their spectacular service and extraordinary value," said Michele Perry, director of communications for TripAdvisor. "Most hotel awards programs honor the most luxurious and opulent hotels, but because Travelers' Choice awards are determined by millions of real travelers from around the world, the winners tend to be outstanding properties that are within reach for the average traveler."

   The Avalon is consistently ranked as one of the top three hotels in the state by TripAdvisor and is among the top ten in the United States. It was one of only three hotels in California to be named in TripAdvisor's top ten Best Hidden Gems.

    The Avalon is the only hotel on the island to be singled out by the Travelers Choice awards.
