Bicycling in AvalonHiking, Biking and Exploring

No matter how many times Avalon has enticed you into a visit, exploring at your own pace offers the chance for discovery and relaxation. Most of the city is ideal for walking, whether it's a quick jaunt to the Catalina Island Museum, (310) 510-2414, in the Casino Building or a more challenging visit to the Wrigley Memorial and Botanical Garden, located a couple of miles up Avalon Canyon Road. In between are a number of casual walks that allow visitors to experience much of Avalon.

Bicycle rentals are widely available in Avalon, including beach cruisers and tandem bikes as well as helmets for the younger generation. Like walking, bicycle riding offers a great chance to see much of the city on your own terms. For more information about renting a bicycle, call Brown's Bikes at (310) 510-0986.
For those looking to save their legs, renting a golf cart does just that as well as provides the definitive Avalon experience. Golf carts are the chosen method of transportation for Avalon residents, so it's no wonder that a recent survey showed that renting a cart is the most popular activity for visitors. Two companies rent golf carts in Avalon: Catalina Cartopia, (310) 510-2493, and Island Rentals, (310) 510-1456.

Yet another way to save your legs is to take advantage of a tour aboard four-legged transportation. Horseback riding tours are available in the hills around Avalon, providing a rustic method of accessing some of the most dramatic vistas of the town. Catalina Stables can be reached by calling (310) 510-0478.
